When it comes to beaches in kerala, the most famous would definitely be Kovalam beach in Thiruvananthapuram ( the capital city of Kerala). Atleast the one which is well known among non keralites. But the truth is that due to the long coastal line, kerala has got a large number of beaches. Varkala beach is special among all as it is the only place in southern kerala where cliffs are found adjacent to the Arabian Sea. These tertiary sedimentary formation cliffs known as Varkala Formation is a unique geological feature and is declared a geological monument by the Geological Survey of India.
