Sikkim

I had gone to Sikkim for earthquake relief as part of the Social Service League of our college and here are some pictures of it. It is one of the most beautiful and well maintained places in India and the government definitely receives the appreciation for all the administrative work it has done in a very systematic manner.

We were a team of 11 students with our staff advisor Richa Raj, who was the support and guidance for the whole team. We received a warm welcome by Shri. K.T. Gyaltsen, the speaker of Sikkim Legislative Assembly and Taashi Densappa, former M.P. Both, alumni of St. Stephen's College. They were extremely happy to see their juniors on a noble mission and provided us with accommodation and a bus to travel.

We had set up 7 tents, one for each family in an affected village called Chandaney.Provided cement for an umbrella  NGO ' Helping Hands Sikkim' which along with the government was building new houses in parts which were affected the most.Information about the village and their needs were collected with the help of another NGO 'Spark'. Its President Praveen Pradhan also travelled with us and introduced us to the local villagers.
The First tent set up by us along with the receiver .
The people of Sikkim were sure that everything the state needed will be provided by the government. We were also assured of this fact. As we were putting down the temporary tents the government had already started work on the permanent houses.Well that shows why Sikkim is the only state without a successful political opposition for such a long period.

We did get to enjoy a bit of the scenic beauty of Sikkim despite our busy schedules but couldn't explore much due to the shortage of time, and hence all of us promised a second visit. Our President, Thangchungmung Mangte (No that's not how he is fondly called that's his official name.) has fixed it to be his honeymoon spot.
