What else would be the best time to write about our college cafe than after the winter break. If you missed college during the break this is the place you would miss the most. It applies to the people who are not really fond of food too because The St. Stephen' Cafe is not sought after for its food; but for the ambiance, the lighting, the meetings and sometimes the tutorials that happen inside. Well you should also insert The photographic society pictures that surround the wall. All that makes it special and worth for people to spend their time.
But no one will come just because of these reasons, the most important factor for a cafe to attract people still remains the food it has to offer. Well, simplicity is our cafe's motto in attracting students and teachers around North Campus. Now i cant stop myself from talking about a few of my favorites.
The mince cutlet, the most famous stephanian product in cafe. It is also the first thing I had from the cafe when I came for my interview. That time I thought that I will never ever be able to have it as the chance of getting admission was too low after the interview, and here I am now having it almost every day. To get the best of the mince cutlet you need to have it with the green chutney. But when that is just not enough to fill your stomach then the option I go for is a 'mince anda bhurji.' with toast or maggi.
Another favorite, is Kashmiri anda . Now i know some people don't like it. I would request them to please try it once more when it is prepared by our very own Bajrangi Ji . Yes, I say it because no one else makes it as good as him. Now you might be thinking what is so difficult in making an omelette with cheese in it. If things were that simple a tea would taste the same anywhere in the world. So, a lot more goes into it. Cooking is like any other art and the performer matters a lot. But if you still don't like it then i should say you generally don't like tomato or you are too conscious about the amount of cheese and oil going inside you. What a nice sight to see the cheese coming out of the egg when you go deep into it.
That's it, now I m not discussing about the food. Everyone already knows it or I have said enough to motivate you to go and examine it yourself. Wait, Cafe cannot be complete without mentioning 'Bhaiyan Ji'. The man who has all the uniforms. Sometimes in winters he could be seen with a safari suit like the Prime minister's bodygaurds would have, sometimes the peaceful white, yet sometimes the proud khaki,or the stylish black one. If there is a lot of staff, teachers and parents. He could be seen busy running(na, thats too much he doesn't run he has a constant pace) for them. But as in most cases he would be sitting idly or just standing and looking around if there is any table to be cleared. But beware, if u ask him to get something he is gonna tell you to get it from the counter; but if you just add a pretty please to it things start working.
That reminded me of how the cafe staff's attitude changes with time. In your first year you will find that these are the people least suitable for hospitality. But that ugly face in the beginning is just like your seniors ragging, a great amount of love and care is to be followed in the coming years. By second year you could feel the change and by third year you know you are gonna miss them.
One last thing about our cafe, as some of you might have noticed the inside section of the cafe is much quieter and calm compared to the outside. Hence, a room for the type of environment you need.
